Long-Endurance STOL UAVs: Bringing Tactical Airpower Closer to the Mission
For a long time, operating a capable fixed-wing UAV meant accepting a basic limitation: it needed a proper runway. That requirement often kept larger unmanned aircraft far from the units they were meant to support. A mission might take place near a coastline, in mountainous terrain or hundreds of kilometres from an established airbase, while the UAV still had to launch from a distant prepared runway. Short Take-off and Landing technology is beginning to change that equation.
